Satellite TV Systems

Things have changed an awful lot in the last few years, especially the way that we watch TV  This is no more apparent when we are away from home!  Nearly gone for some and gone for most are the days when you could tune in your TV with Mum inside the van saying "Better, Better, Better, Oh too far!  Move it back a bit, Oh perfect, hold it there" Only to find out that "there" in fact,  needed Dad to stand on one leg holding the aerial at an impossible angle!

Then came along satellite TV! what a revolution!  Bolting a thing on the side of your house the size of a dustbin lid, that looked like a...Well a dustbin lid and pointing it at something thousands of miles away in space that transmitted with less power than the kitchen light bulb.  David Attenborough, Coronation Street, The price is right! All beamed into our lounge from Space!

Next came Digital TV  This was similar in quality to Satellite but it was transmitted by antennas on the ground, not in space!  Excellent! more repeats and loads more shopping channels!  But wait a minute, I am working so will miss Ray Meyers and I really wanted to watch that last episode.  Ah I know it will be on "More 4 Plus 2"  in an hour so some repeats are good.

Also, complete re-runs of excellent TV dramas and series that we watched years ago and thoroughly enjoyed, back to back all night!  Some things are worth repeating.

All was fine now, but then the Government announced that the traditional (old fashioned) TV was going to be scrapped! but not for years!  so no need to panic then.  Unfortunately, those years have flown by and now the regions are being turned off throughout the Country.  This has, in the main been well organised it seems, but for those of us that need to tune in regularly in different parts of the Country there can be a problem.

Digital antenna’s just don't seem to work! Well I rephrase that: the ones that the majority of motorhome manufacturers install just don’t seem to work.  To be fair, it they did we could have much smaller aerials on the roof at home!  There is  a reason that the aerials in the loft are the size they are: They work, and they are too big really to carry around and use on the roof of a motorhome.

Worse, the digital TV needs a very good signal or it simply doesn't want to tune in at all, and you get the message on the screen "no signal being received"  At least in the old days (analogue) if you wanted to see the last part of somthing or wanted to watch the final of the FA Cup you could normally get a picture of sorts, even if it was a bit "snowy" or had a ghost reflection. Now it simply will not work with a poor signal:  It's called progress!

More and more people are simply biting the bullet and having satellite TV installed on their motorhomes, caravans and boats.  Ignoring the expense for a minute this means that when you do go away in your motorhome, you ca push a button, put the kettle on or open the wine, whichever takes your fancy and in the time you have your drink the TV is ready to go.

What you watch is up to you.  There are hundreds of free channels available without a Sky box or if you choose you can use a Sky box, the choice is yours and depends on the equipment you choose to have installed.

Also another important consideration is the installation Company.  Frankly there is little to choose between the majority of the equipment if you don't want to venture too far North, South, East or West. So for the majority of  people,  the installing dealer is as important if not more important than the actual make of the system itself.

The actual installation is fairly straightforward and is more time consuming than technically difficult.

However, you will need the system set up, and any software updates applied and you want to make sure that you have all the channels that you should get, and finally and most importantly you need to have a good handover and demonstration and feel comfortable that when you do get away that you know there is someone you know and trust on the end of a phone to "talk you through" any problems you may have.

In short any fool can fit most satellite TV systems, but you want the installation neat and tidy, watertight, easy to use, properly up to date and demonstrated properly so your 100% comfortable with your purchase when you leave.

At Van Bitz you get an overnight stop Free Of Charge at our Award Winning 3.5 acre campsite "Cornish Farm" which is within our grounds so once the job is done you make sure that your 100% comfortable using the system before you have to leave us.
